Language Requirements
From January 8th, they have made the following changes to these visa types.
- Skilled worker visa
- Scale up visa
- High-potential individual visa
Holders and applicants of these visas must meet a B2 English level (up from B1) in order to continue to hold their visa in the UK.
Mandatory Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)
By February 2026, all visitors to the UK from a non-Visa country must obtain an ETA, with full enforcement in place.
Transition to E-Visas
By late 2026, physical visa vignettes (stickers) will be replaced entirely by digital eVisas linked to a user’s UKVI account.
Earned Settlement Proposals
The government is proposing a shift from ‘time served’ to ‘earned settlement’, which will be effective in April 2026. This could potentially increase the time for the application process for indefinite leave to remain and abolish the current 10-year long residence route.
